Shopify Care
Shopify care is a monthly maintenance plan for Shopify stores. Because Shopify manages the platform and security itself, the plan focuses on what merchants still own: theme and Liquid code, app conflicts, checkout behaviour, page speed, and the customisations that break silently when Shopify or an app updates underneath them.
Prices shown are starting points. The final cost depends on the size and scope of your project, and we confirm it in writing before any work begins.
Shopify handles hosting, security patching and PCI compliance, so a Shopify care plan is a different job from a WordPress one. Nobody needs to update your core. What does need watching is everything layered on top.
Apps are the usual culprit. The average store runs a dozen, each injecting scripts into the theme. When one updates, it can slow the store, break a layout, or conflict with another app's script. Uninstalled apps frequently leave their code behind, so stores accumulate dead script tags that still cost load time years later.
Custom Liquid is the other pressure point. Sections and snippets written against one theme version stop behaving when the theme updates, and Shopify's own platform changes occasionally deprecate what your customisations rely on. We track both, test on a duplicate theme, and publish only what passes.

- Monthly report with speed trend and app audit
What you actually get
Duplicate-theme testing
Changes proven on a copy of your live theme, never on the one customers are using.
App audit
What each app costs you in load time, and which ones are no longer earning their place.
Speed trend
Core Web Vitals tracked month over month, so slowdowns show up as a line, not a surprise.
Checkout verification
A real transaction through each live gateway after any change that could touch it.
How it runs
- 01
Store audit
Theme version, app stack, custom Liquid, speed baseline and checkout config documented.
- 02
Cleanup
Orphaned scripts removed, unused apps flagged, obvious speed wins taken immediately.
- 03
Monthly cycle
Tested updates, app monitoring, speed tracking, checkout verification.
- 04
Report
Speed trend, app changes, what was fixed, what we recommend next.
Questions people actually ask
Does Shopify not handle maintenance already?
Shopify maintains the platform: hosting, security, PCI compliance, checkout infrastructure. It does not maintain your theme, your apps, your custom Liquid or the interactions between them. That layer is yours, and it is where nearly every store problem actually originates.
How do apps slow my store down?
Most apps inject JavaScript into every page, whether or not the page uses the feature. Ten apps can mean ten separate scripts loading on your homepage. Worse, uninstalling an app often leaves its script tag behind, so stores carry code from apps they removed years ago.
Can you work on a store with a premium or heavily customised theme?
Yes. Heavily customised themes need more care on updates, because customisations written against an older version may not survive. We test on a duplicate theme and migrate the customisations rather than overwriting them.
Do you cover Shopify Plus?
Yes, including Shopify Flow automations, Scripts and checkout extensibility. Plus stores usually have more integrations to keep working, so pricing reflects the additional surface area.
What if I need a new feature built?
Development beyond maintenance is quoted separately: a new section, a custom product page layout, an integration. The care plan keeps what exists working; building new things is its own scope with its own fixed quote.
Will you tell me which apps to remove?
Yes, with the load-time cost of each one. Removing three apps you barely use is often the single fastest speed improvement available, and it lowers your monthly app bill at the same time.
