Shopify SEO
Shopify SEO addresses the platform's specific weaknesses: duplicate product URLs created by collection paths, variant URLs splitting ranking signals, faceted filter pages generating crawl waste, and default themes shipping incomplete product schema. Most of the work happens in Liquid, not in an app.
Prices shown are starting points. The final cost depends on the size and scope of your project, and we confirm it in writing before any work begins.
Shopify is a good commerce platform with a handful of SEO defaults that quietly cost you traffic. Products are reachable at both /products/x and /collections/y/products/x. Variants can generate their own URLs. Filter combinations create near-infinite crawlable paths that burn crawl budget on pages you would never want ranked.
Collection pages are the other big miss. They are the pages with real commercial search volume ('buy running shoes online india' is a collection query, not a product query) and most stores ship them with a heading, a product grid and nothing else. There is no text for Google to understand what the page is about.
The fix is mostly theme-level. Canonical handling, filter directives, collection content blocks, and complete Product schema with price, availability, brand, GTIN and reviews. Apps can patch some of this; editing the theme does it properly and does not add another script to every page load.

Questions people actually ask
Do I need an SEO app for Shopify?
Usually not. Most SEO apps automate title templates and bulk alt text, which is convenient but not where the traffic is. The problems that actually cost you rankings (canonical handling, faceted navigation, schema completeness) are theme-level fixes. Apps also add scripts that slow the store.
Why do my collection pages not rank?
Almost always because they have no content. A heading and a product grid gives Google nothing to assess. Collection pages carry the highest commercial intent of any page type on a store, and they are consistently the most neglected.
Does Shopify handle duplicate content automatically?
Partially. Shopify sets a canonical from /collections/x/products/y back to /products/y, which handles the common case. It does not solve variant URLs, filter combinations or paginated collections, and those are where crawl budget disappears on larger catalogues.
Can you do Shopify SEO without changing my theme?
Some of it. Titles, meta descriptions, content and internal links need no theme access. Schema, canonical logic and crawl directives generally do. We will tell you upfront what is off the table without theme edits.
How does Shopify SEO differ from WooCommerce SEO?
The goals are identical; the constraints differ. Shopify limits what you can change in robots.txt and URL structure, so more work happens in Liquid and canonicals. WooCommerce gives full server access but has more ways to misconfigure and more plugin conflicts.
Will Shopify SEO help my products show in Google Shopping?
Indirectly. Shopping placement is driven by your Merchant Center feed, not organic SEO, but both read the same product data. Clean titles, correct GTINs and accurate availability improve free listings and paid Shopping at the same time.
