Shopify Email Authentication
Shopify email domain authentication links your store's emails to your own domain using DNS records. Until it is done, Shopify sends order confirmations and shipping updates from a shared backup address, which mail providers trust less. We add the records, confirm Shopify shows Authenticated, and set a safe DMARC policy.
Prices shown are starting points. The final cost depends on the size and scope of your project, and we confirm it in writing before any work begins.
If your Shopify admin shows Update recommended or Needs setup under Email domain authentication, your customers are getting order emails from a shared address instead of yours. Nothing looks broken, but confirmations land in spam more often and some customers write to ask whether their order went through.
We do the whole job: find where your DNS is really managed, add what is missing, check it from outside Shopify, and recheck until the status reads Authenticated. You get a short note of what changed and where.
Want to do it yourself first? Here is the step by step. How to authenticate your email domain in Shopify.
What's included
- Check of where your DNS is actually managed
- Missing authentication records added at the right place
- DMARC added at a monitoring-only policy, or left alone if you already have one
- Records checked before Shopify is asked to verify
- Status rechecked until Shopify shows Authenticated
- A one page note of what was added and where
What we need from you
DNS access
Login to wherever your domain's DNS is managed, or tell us the domain and we will help you find it.
Shopify staff access
A staff account with permission to open notification settings.
Your sender address
The address customers should see, on your own domain. We can help set one up if you only have a Gmail address today.
Questions people actually ask
How long does it take?
The work itself is quick. Shopify says up to 48 hours for DNS changes to propagate before the status moves to Authenticated, and some stores show it within hours.
My store sends from a Gmail address. Can you still do it?
Not directly, because Shopify cannot authenticate public domains like Gmail. We set up a sender address on your own domain first, then complete the authentication.
Will this fix customers who give only a phone number?
No. Authentication improves delivery of emails that are sent. If a customer gave no email address, the fix is a checkout setting or an SMS or WhatsApp message, which we can advise on.
Can this break my existing email?
Not when it is done properly. The records use new names and any DMARC record you already have is left exactly as it is.
